Red Lake Falls survives Breckenridge/Wahpeton comeback, wins 4-3Breckenridge/Wahpeton Fri, Jan 04, 2013 The Red Lake Falls Eagles survived a determined comeback attempt by the Breckenridge/Wahpeton Blades on the way to a 4-3 win. A goal by Kayler Knott put Red Lake Falls up 4-1 in the second period, but Breckenridge/Wahpeton pulled to within one on Tyler Gripentrog's tally 16:16 into the third period. The Eagles got the win on the strength of a great game by Zack Landman, who had one goal and two assists. Landman scored 13:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Red Lake Falls. Knott provided the assist. Red Lake Falls managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Eagles ended up below its season average of 8.0 penalty minutes per game. Red Lake Falls also got points from Knott, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Ryan Amiot also scored for Red Lake Falls. In addition, Red Lake Falls received assists from Matt Eskeli and Mason Hanson, who each chipped in one. The Blades kept Red Lake Falls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Wyatt Casavan made 32 saves on 35 shots. Breckenridge/Wahpeton was helped by Brandon Wixo, who grabbed one goal. Wixo scored 8:27 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Red Lake Falls. Breckenridge/Wahpeton additionally got points from Gripentrog, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Breckenridge/Wahpeton also got a goal from Zach Reiff as well. More assists for Breckenridge/Wahpeton came via Austin Hagstrom, who had one. The Eagles registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Michael Withuski made 18 saves for the Blades on 22 shots. Breckenridge/Wahpeton incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
