Hermantown rips Bemidji, 8-1

The Hermantown Hawks had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-1 win over the Bemidji Lumberjacks.

Nate Pionk had one goal and two assists to lead Hermantown. Pionk scored 3:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hermantown. Jake Zeleznikar picked up the assist.

The Hawks forced Bemidji goalie Gabe Heifort to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. The defensemen of Hermantown were also effective in the Lumberjacks' zone, and came away with three goals.

Hermantown additionally got points from Zeleznikar, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Bo Gronseth, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Ryan Carlson, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Zach Kramer also scored for Hermantown. In addition, Hermantown received assists from Jared Zeleznika, who had one, Christian Wasbotten, who had two, and Travis Koepke, who had three.

Bemidji did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 12 shots on net to force 11 saves.

Adam Smith rejected 11 shots on goal for the Hawks. Hermantown ended with no penalties and went 2-for-0 on the power play. Heifort recorded 34 saves for the Lumberjacks. Bemidji finished the contest with no penalties and went 0-for-0 with the man advantage.
