Tartan survives Crookston comeback, wins 6-5

The Tartan Titans survived a determined comeback attempt by the Crookston Pirates on the way to a 6-5 win.

Tartan took a 6-4 lead during the third period, only to have Crookston storm back on a Dylan Klatt goal 14:40 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

With three goals and two assists between them, Mike Winberg and Kevin Reddy teamed up to power the Titans' offense. Winberg had one goal and two assists and Reddy also added two goals.

Tartan's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Titans give up 1.5 goal per game. Tartan cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on five chances.

Tartan also got a goal from Eric Olheiser as well. In addition, Tartan received assists from Michael Friberg, who had two and Jake Picht, Zach Ledman, Will Acker, and Jake Jackson, who each chipped in one.

The Pirates were led by Brady Heppner, who tallied two goals and one assist. Heppner scored the first of his two goals at 31 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Crookston. Chandler St. Michel picked up the assist. Heppner's next tally made the score 3-2 Tartan with 16:14 left in the second period. Montell Tate assisted on the tally. Connor Morgan also scored for Crookston. Other players who recorded assists for Crookston were Ryan Bittner, who had two and Ryan Edevold, Doug Larson, and Curtis Regan, who contributed one a piece.

The Titans' Gabe Splichal stopped 25 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Tartan incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Landon Stainbrook made 15 saves for Crookston on 21 shots. The Pirates incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
