Huge game by Siegel boosts Simley over St. Paul Highland Park, 8-1

The Simley Spartans' Wylie Siegel had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 8-1 win over the St. Paul Highland Park Scots.

Siegel found the back of the net 5:59 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Simley and again while 16:41 into the third to make the score 8-1 Simley.

Simley forced St. Paul Highland Park goalie Howie Sands to work between the pipes, taking 62 shots. The Spartans bested their season scoring average. Simley has scored at the pace of 3.7 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of the Spartans were also effective in the Scots' zone, and came away with three goals.

Simley additionally got points from Nick Battis, who also registered one goal and one assist, John Reibert, who also finished with two goals and one assist, Mitch Vogel, who also grabbed one goal and three assists, and Aaron Leafgren, who also had one goal and one assist. Simley also got a goal from Ken McLean as well. More assists for Simley came via Brady Lane, Alec Sutton, Aaron Folkerts, and Gage Gustafson, who each chipped in one.

St. Paul Highland Park avoided man-down situations well, totaling one major for five minutes in penalty time. The Scots wound up below its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game. St. Paul Highland Park's offense was handcuffed by Simley's defensive play, and the Scots managed only 12 shots on goal during the game.

Zach Boughton recorded 11 saves for the Spartans. Simley incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. St. Paul Highland Park's Sands stopped 54 shots out of the 62 that he faced. The Scots registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
