Edina beats Wayzata 5-4 after comeback scarePlymouth Ice Center Sat, Jan 26, 2013 The Edina Hornets survived a determined comeback attempt by the Wayzata Trojans on the way to a 5-4 win. Edina made the score 5-3 on a goal by Ben Hull at 2:37 in the third period, and Wayzata got as close as 5-4 when Maxwell Zimmer scored 10:12 into the third period. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Hornets' offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 13.1 shots per game they average. Edina was led by Dylan Malmquist, who grabbed two goals. Malmquist scored the first of his two goals at 14:43 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Malmquist's next tally made the score 4-3 Edina with 3:30 left in the second period. Andy Jordahl picked up the assist. Edina also got points from Jordahl, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Edina also got a goal from Tyler Nanne as well. In addition, Edina received assists from Parker Reno, who had two and Cullen Munson, Connor Hurley, Bo Brauer, and Ryan Hatch, who each chipped in one. The 19 shots that the Trojans put on net surpassed Wayzata's average of 5.8 shots per game this season. The Trojans' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Wayzata averages 2.0 goals allowed per game. Akash Batra also scored for Wayzata. More assists for Wayzata came via Matthew Freytag, who had two and Robert Zitzlperger and Jack Sorensen, who contributed one a piece. The Hornets' Willie Benjamin stopped 15 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Edina incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Aaron Dingman made 31 saves for the Trojans on 36 shots. Wayzata incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
