GAME RECAP

Wayzata hangs on, beats Eastview 3-1

Plymouth Ice Center    Tue, Dec 04, 2012

Matthew Freytag gave the Wayzata Trojans the lead in the first period, and the Eastview Lightning was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

Wayzata took over the lead for good with a goal by Freytag at 10:29 in the first period. Alex Stevens picked up the assist.

Freytag was all over the ice for the Trojans, as he grabbed two goals in the win.

Wayzata put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Eastview to score on any of its five power plays. The Trojans' offense was clicking better than usual and put 27 shots on goal during the game, better than the 3.8 shots per game they average.

Jalen Wahl also scored for Wayzata. In addition, Wayzata received assists from Chad Olson, Chase Haller, Alec Hemenway, and Jack Sorensen, who each chipped in one.

The Lightning's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Wayzata power plays. Eastview could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Lightning put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game.

Eastview was led by John Snodgrass, who scored the team's only goal. Snodgrass scored 19 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Eastview.

Jens Vaughn Arens recorded 16 saves for Wayzata. The Trojans ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Matthew Montgomery rejected 24 shots on goal for the Lightning. Eastview incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
