Northfield rips New Ulm, 4-1

The Northfield Raiders had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the New Ulm Eagles.

Northfield pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Raiders were sparked by Taylor Freiermuth, who racked up one goal and one assist. Freiermuth scored 13:35 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Northfield. Andrew Scofield provided the assist.

Northfield excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. New Ulm was unable to stop the Raiders from sending pucks towards the net, and Northfield eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Northfield additionally got points from Scofield, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Nate Picha also scored for Northfield. Other players who recorded assists for Northfield were Andrew Carroll, Benjamin Papke, Nathan Scofield, Ryan Malecha, and Alexander Morschiing, who contributed one a piece.

The Eagles' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Northfield power plays.

The Raiders' Spencer Jones stopped 21 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Brach Kraus rejected 31 shots on goal for New Ulm. The Eagles ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major.
