Frentz's big game bests New Prague in 6-2 Mankato West win

Behind a great game by Derek Frentz, who had two goals and two assists, the Mankato West Scarlets defeated the New Prague Spartans, 6-2.

Frentz's tallies came at 13:59 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 19 seconds into the second to make the score 2-1 Mankato West.

Mankato West's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Scarlets finished with 16 penalty minutes. Mankato West got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Mankato West additionally got points from Galt Goettl, who also registered one goal and one assist, Scott McKissick, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Max Mettler, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Mankato West also got a goal from Tyler Loe as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mankato West were Nicholas Campbell, Zachary Erickson, and Ryan Jutting, who contributed one a piece.

New Prague struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 18 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays.

The Spartans were helped by Austin Isaacson, who had one goal. Isaacson scored 4:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Prague. Ben Witt assisted on the tally. Seth Kriha also scored for New Prague. More assists for New Prague came via Alex Gregor, who had two.

Jake Spiess recorded 18 saves for the Scarlets. New Prague's Evan Bisek stopped 22 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Spartans registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
