Eden Prairie rides Gerdes to victory over Edina, 3-1

Jake Gerdes stood on his head and made 32 saves to lead the Eden Prairie Eagles to a 3-1 victory over the Edina Hornets.

Eden Prairie was sparked by Michael Graham, who had one goal. Graham scored on the power play 8:43 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Eden Prairie. The Eagles had gotten the advantage when Edina's Dylan Malmquist was sent off for tripping. Colton Schmidt provided the assist.

Eden Prairie excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. With 35 shots on target during the contest, the Eagles exceeded the 11.7 shots they average per game this year.

Eden Prairie also got a goal from Andrew Knudsen as well. In addition, Eden Prairie received assists from Steven Spinner, who had one and Luc Snuggerud, who had two.

The Hornets were held below their usual level of production. Edina averages 3.8 goals per game. The Hornets' offense rang up 33 shots on Eden Prairie's net. Edina could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Hornets were led by Connor Hurley, who scored the team's only goal. Hurley scored 6:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Edina. Malmquist assisted on the tally.

The Eagles incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Willie Benjamin rejected 32 shots on goal for Edina.
