Wayzata uses early goal to top Hill-Murray, 3-1Plymouth Ice Center Sat, Jan 12, 2013 Matthew Freytag gave the Wayzata Trojans the lead in the first period, and the Hill-Murray Pioneers was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1. Wayzata took over the lead for good with a goal by Freytag at 11:20 in the first period. Chase Haller provided the assist.Freytag was all over the ice for the Trojans, as he registered two goals in the win. Wayzata was led by goalie Aaron Dingman, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. Dingman managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.96 prior to the game. The Trojans' offense was clicking better than usual and put 32 shots on goal during the game, better than the 7.5 shots per game they average. Wayzata also got points from Haller, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Wayzata came via Maxwell Zimmer, Akash Batra, Jalen Wahl, Alec Hemenway, and Jack Sorensen, who each chipped in one. Hill-Murray excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Pioneers could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Hill-Murray averages 3.8 goals per game. The Pioneers put 28 shots on net during the contest, more than the 2.3 they average per game. Hill-Murray was led by Mitch Slattery, who scored the team's only goal. Slattery scored 2:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hill-Murray. Sam Becker assisted on the tally. Wayzata incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. John Dugas rejected 29 shots on goal for the Pioneers. Hill-Murray incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
