Bloomington Jefferson outlasts Hopkins, 3-2

The Bloomington Jefferson Jaguars gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Hopkins Royals.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Charlie Straus secured the win for Bloomington Jefferson with a goal in the third period.

The Jaguars were paced by Straus, who tallied one goal and one assist. Straus scored 13:24 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Bloomington Jefferson. Johnny Panvica provided the assist.

Bloomington Jefferson stifled Hopkins' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jaguars forced the Royals goalie Sam Dalton to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Bloomington Jefferson also got points from Collin Hernon, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Bloomington Jefferson also got a goal from Tyler Johnson as well. More assists for Bloomington Jefferson came via Jack Weiss and Jono Lindquist, who contributed one a piece.

Hopkins put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Bloomington Jefferson to score on any of its five power plays.

The Royals were helped by Joshua Laven, who finished with one goal. Laven scored 8:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hopkins. Trace Bolstad assisted on the tally. Hopkins additionally got points from Jim Copouls, who also grabbed one goal and one assist.

Grant Martens took the win and made 14 saves before being replaced by Josh Waldrn who made three saves. The Jaguars ended with seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major. Hopkins' Dalton stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Royals incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
