Shakopee completes comeback, beats Red Wing, 4-3Shakopee Thu, Feb 07, 2013 The Shakopee Sabers rallied from two goals down to secure a 4-3 win over the Red Wing Wingers. Shakopee let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Sabers took a 3-2 advantage on a goal by Nick Nelson at 5:59 in the second period. Shakopee went down 2-0 after Red Wing's Michael Bigelbach put the puck home short handed at 7:08 in the first period. After knotting things up at 3-3 on a goal by Taylor Hanson at 9:17 in the third, the Sabers got the game-winner from Sheldon Miks at 9:23 in the third period. Shakopee was led by Miks, who had one goal and one assist. The Sabers managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Shakopee finished below its season average of 10.0 penalty minutes per game. The Sabers surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Shakopee has scored at the pace of 1.9 goal per game during the current campaign. Bubba Kubes also scored for Shakopee. Other players who recorded assists for Shakopee were Ryan Davis, Preston Husom, Ben Jasper, and Ethan Sievek, who contributed one a piece. The Wingers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Shakopee power plays. Red Wing forced the Sabers goalie Sean Surbaugh to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Wingers' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Red Wing also got points from Hanson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Shakopee's Surbaugh stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Preston Blaney made 18 saves for Red Wing on 22 shots. The Wingers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
