Surbaugh leads Shakopee to shutout victory over Bloomington Kennedy

The Shakopee Sabers used a sparkling performance by Sean Surbaugh to take down the Bloomington Kennedy Eagles, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Shakopee's 3-0 shutout victory.

The Sabers were led by Ben Jasper, who finished with one goal. Jasper scored short handed 15:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Shakopee. Shakopee played down a man on Brett Vogel's cross checking. Preston Husom assisted on the tally.

The Sabers stifled Bloomington Kennedy's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Shakopee additionally got points from Husom, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Cullen Sievek also scored for Shakopee. In addition, Shakopee received assists from Sam Scott, who had one and Bubba Kubes, who had two.

The Eagles did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Bloomington Kennedy puts an average of 2.6 pucks into the net per game.

Surbaugh recorded 25 saves for Shakopee. The Sabers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Eagles' David Johnson stopped 17 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Bloomington Kennedy totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
