Besse nets hat trick, leads Benilde St. Margarets to 8-2 win over Mounds View

Grant Besse lifted the Benilde St. Margarets Red Knights to an 8-2 victory with a hat trick against the Mounds View Mustangs.

Besse got on the scoresheet 11:10 into the second period. He then added goals at 14:58 into the second and at 1:58 into the third.

Benilde St. Margarets bested its season scoring average. The Red Knights have scored at the pace of 5.5 goals per game during the current campaign. By firing 40 shots on goal, Benilde St. Margarets exceeded the 19.1 shots it averages per game this year.

Benilde St. Margarets additionally got points from Chase Jungels, who also registered one goal and one assist, Patrick Graham, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Evan Fleming, who also had one goal and two assists, T.J. Moore, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Nate Labosky, who also registered one goal and two assists. In addition, Benilde St. Margarets received assists from Spencer Naas, who had two and Johnny Austin and Alec Baer, who each chipped in one.

Mounds View was held below its usual level of production. The Mustangs average 4.6 goals per game. Mounds View's offense was clicking better than usual and put 23 shots on goal during the game, better than the 0.2 shots per game it averages.

The Mustangs were led by Tucker Gran, who tallied two goals. Gran scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:40 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Andrew Bjorklund picked up the assist. Gran's next tally on the power play made the score 5-2 Benilde St. Margarets with 14:12 left in the third period. An interference penalty on Jungels had put Mounds View on the power play. Matt Hunt provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mounds View were Max Knutson, who had one.

Andrew Sprang rejected 21 shots on goal for the Red Knights. Benilde St. Margarets totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Mustangs' Brandon Smith stopped 32 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Mounds View incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
