Blaine survives penalties, beats Champlin Park, 6-1

Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Blaine Bengals were able to defeat the Champlin Park Rebels, 6-1.

Blaine was sparked by Ian Scheid, who had one goal and one assist. Scheid scored 3:43 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Blaine. Luke Notermann assisted on the tally.

The Bengals' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Champlin Park power plays. Blaine got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. With 40 shots on target during the contest, the Bengals exceeded the 1.4 shot they average per game this year. Blaine could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Blaine also got points from Dallas Gerads, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Blaine also got a goal from Joey Lau as well. Other players who recorded assists for Blaine were Alex Copa, who had three and Tanner Tufte, Frank Vescio, Tyler Maki, and Jack Micek, who contributed one a piece.

The Bengals' defense shut down Champlin Park's forwards for much of the game, and the Rebels got off only 11 shots during the contest.

Champlin Park was led by Luke Dahlman, who scored the team's only goal. Dahlman scored short handed 4:31 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Blaine.

James Simmer made 10 saves for Blaine on 11 shots. The Bengals registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Grant Schuenke recorded 34 saves for the Rebels. Champlin Park incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
