Elk River uses early goal to top Champlin Park, 1-0Elk River Barn Thu, Jan 17, 2013 The Elk River Elks took the lead against the Champlin Park Rebels in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 1-0 victory. A goal 6:09 into the the first period by Tim Sandford proved to be the game winner, and powered Elk River to the victory Jacob Jaremko assisted on the tally.The Elks were sparked by Sandford, who tallied one goal. Elk River put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Champlin Park to score on any of its three power plays. The Elks could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Elk River puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Elks featured an improved defense during the game. Elk River gives up 2.3 goals on average per game. The 28 shots that the Elks put on net surpassed Elk River's average of 4.4 shots per game this season.
