Duluth East beats Anoka 4-2 after comeback scare

The Anoka Tornadoes tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Duluth East Greyhounds held on for a 4-2 victory.

A goal by Meirs Moore put Duluth East up 4-1 in the third period, but Anoka pulled to within two on Kristian Manthey's tally 16:37 into the third period.

Alex Toscano had two goals and one assist to lead the Greyhounds. Toscano scored the first of his two goals at 6:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Duluth East. Phil Beaulieu assisted on the tally. Toscano's next tally made the score 3-1 Duluth East with 19:25 left in the third period. Moore picked up the assist.

Duluth East's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Anoka power plays. The Greyhounds could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Duluth East puts an average of 7.5 pucks into the net per game. The Greyhounds forced the Tornadoes goalie Nick Cameron to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Duluth East also got points from Moore, who also had one goal and two assists and Jack Forbort, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Duluth East were Andrew Kerr, Ryan Lundgren, and Hogan Davidson, who each chipped in one.

Anoka additionally got points from Jordan Peterson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Anoka came via Drew McLaughlin and Chase West, who contributed one a piece.

Casen Sjerven made 20 saves for Duluth East on 22 shots. The Greyhounds incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cameron rejected 30 shots on goal for Anoka. The Tornadoes incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
