Burnsville uses early goal to top Apple Valley, 4-2

Ian Taylor scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Burnsville Blaze held off the challenges of the Apple Valley Eagles in a tough 4-2 win.

Burnsville took over the lead for good with a goal by Taylor at 11:56 in the first period. Dylan Weigel picked up the assist.

The Blaze were led by Tyler Sheehy, who registered one goal. Sheehy scored short handed 12:23 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Burnsville. A too many men call on Cole Borchardt put Burnsville on the penalty kill.

In the losing effort, Apple Valley was sparked by Christian Smith, who tallied two goals. Smith scored the first of his two goals at 11:12 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Burnsville. Collin Trankel provided the assist. Smith's next tally made the score 3-2 Burnsville with 6:41 left in the third period. Mason Preston picked up the assist.

The 40 shots that the Blaze put on net surpassed Burnsville's average of 0.8 shots per game this season.

Burnsville additionally got points from Dan Ames, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Weigel, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Burnsville came via Jack Ahcan, who had one.

The Eagles' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Burnsville power plays.

In addition, Apple Valley received assists from Jacob Smith, who had one.

Nic Anderson rejected 25 shots on goal for the Blaze. Burnsville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Mac Wartick recorded 36 saves for Apple Valley. The Eagles incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
