Bloomington Jefferson rips Bloomington Kennedy, 6-1

The Bloomington Kennedy Eagles had trouble finding ways to stop the Bloomington Jefferson Jaguars, which beat Eagles, 6-1.

Bloomington Jefferson got the win thanks to a great game by Collin Hernon, who had two goals and one assist. Hernon scored the first of his two goals at 7:52 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Bloomington Jefferson. Jack Graves assisted on the tally. Hernon's next tally made the score 4-1 Bloomington Jefferson with 11:09 left in the second period. Cole Ancel provided the assist.

The Jaguars' penalty kill excelled, as Bloomington Jefferson gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Jaguars forced Bloomington Kennedy goalie David Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. Bloomington Jefferson surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Jaguars have scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign. Bloomington Jefferson was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 26 penalty minutes.

Bloomington Jefferson additionally got points from Jono Lindquist, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ryan Freese also scored for Bloomington Jefferson. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington Jefferson were Zac Beek, who had one and Tyler Johnson, who had two.

The Eagles racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 12.0 minutes per game Bloomington Kennedy had been spending in the box. The Eagles did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 14 shots on net to force 13 saves.

Bloomington Kennedy was led by Jacob OKeefe, who scored the team's only goal. OKeefe scored on the power play 16:05 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Bloomington Jefferson. A tripping penalty on Ben Dagget had put the Eagles on the power play. Michael Jost picked up the assist.

Grant Martens made 13 saves for the Jaguars on 14 shots. Bloomington Jefferson registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Johnson rejected 40 shots on goal for Bloomington Kennedy. For the Eagles, Tait Carlson was ejected from the game.
