Eagan uses big second period to beat Rosemount, 8-0

The Rosemount Irish was within striking distance after one period, but the Eagan Wildcats put the pedal down in the second en route to an 8-0 victory.

Zach Glienke had two goals and two assists to lead Eagan. Glienke scored the first of his two goals at 16:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Eagan. Nick Smallidge picked up the assist. Glienke's next tally made the score 7-0 Eagan with 4:19 left in the second period. Jack Jenson assisted on the tally.

The Wildcats stifled Rosemount's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Eagan kept the Irish's goalie busy throughout the game, and Austin Leslie made 32 saves on 40 shots. The Wildcats' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Eagan averages 4.5 goals per contest.

Eagan also got points from Kyle Stebbing, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Max Elsenheimer, who also tallied two goals and one assist, Will Peterson, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Jenson, who also had one goal and two assists. Eagan also got a goal from Cullen Willox as well. In addition, Eagan received assists from Tommy Muck, who had one and Jesse Gabrielle, who had two.

Rosemount managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Irish ended up below its season average of 10.0 penalty minutes per game. Rosemount was held below its usual level of production. The Irish average 2.7 goals per game. Rosemount found itself stymied offensively, and got off a mere 12 shots against the Wildcats' defense.

Andrew Lindgren made 12 saves for Eagan on 12 shots. The Wildcats incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Irish registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
