Wayzata wins tough contest against Rosemount, 3-2

The game between the Wayzata Trojans and the Rosemount Irish was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Wayzata emerged with a 3-2 win.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Matthew Freytag at 3:51 of the third period.

Freytag had two goals and one assist to lead the Trojans. Freytag scored the first of his two goals at 13:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wayzata. Chad Olson picked up the assist. Freytag's next tally made the score 3-2 Wayzata with 16:09 left in the third period. Olson assisted on the tally.

Wayzata stifled Rosemount's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Trojans' offense rang up 34 shots on the Irish's net.

Chase Heising also scored for Wayzata. In addition, Wayzata received assists from Brian Machut and Jack Sorensen, who each chipped in one.

Rosemount excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Irish could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game.

Rosemount was helped by Ted Schultz, who racked up one goal and one assist. Schultz scored 14:39 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Lukas Gillett provided the assist. Rosemount also got points from Gillett, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Rosemount came via Justin Crowell, who had one.

Jens Vaughn Arens made 14 saves for Wayzata on 16 shots. The Trojans ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Tom Fraune recorded 31 saves for the Irish. Rosemount registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
