Forest Lake squeaks by Hastings, 5-3Forest Lake High School Sat, Feb 09, 2013 The Forest Lake Rangers and the Hastings Raiders were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Forest Lake made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Weston Kilpela's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. The Rangers got the win behind a great game by Brett Gravelle, who had two goals and one assist. Gravelle scored the first of his two goals at 35 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Forest Lake. Clayton Dahly picked up the assist. Gravelle's next tally made the score 5-3 Forest Lake with 3:27 left in the third period. Paul Stehr assisted on the tally. Forest Lake also got points from Jack Schmidt, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Forest Lake also got a goal from Ryan Herbert as well. Other players who recorded assists for Forest Lake were Cody Rogala, who had two and Kyle Parker and Alex Egle, who each chipped in one. Hastings was helped by Andrew Bussey, who tallied one goal. Bussey scored on the power play 9:12 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mark Huneke picked up the assist. Hastings additionally got points from Zach Mellick, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jake Otto also scored for Hastings. In addition, Hastings received assists from Jacob Cooper, who had one. Jesse Garcia rejected 25 shots on goal for Forest Lake. The Rangers ended with no penalties and went 0-for-0 on the power play. The Raiders' Matt Radke stopped 25 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Hastings avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored one goal off of zero power plays.
