Hastings survives Stillwater comeback, wins 5-4St. Croix Rec Center Thu, Jan 17, 2013 The Stillwater Ponies tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Hastings Raiders held on for a 5-4 victory. Hastings made the score 5-3 on a goal by Zach Mellick at 16:20 in the third period, and Stillwater got as close as 5-4 when Jarrid Balz scored 16:48 into the third period. Mark Huneke had two goals to lead the Raiders to victory. Huneke scored at 6:31 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stillwater and again while 3:39 into the third to make the score 4-2 Hastings. Hastings also got points from Mellick, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Andrew Bussey, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Blake Berg also scored for Hastings. Other players who recorded assists for Hastings were Matt Flynn, Brandon Boogreen, and Andy Neuman, who contributed one a piece. The Ponies managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Stillwater finished below its season average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game. Hastings' defense shut down the Ponies' forwards for much of the game, and Stillwater got off only 14 shots during the contest. The Ponies' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Stillwater gives up 2.1 goals per game. Stillwater additionally got points from Chad Smith, who also registered one goal and one assist and Mitch Reinke, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Stillwater also got a goal from Nick Anderson as well. In addition, Stillwater received assists from Cates Devin, who had two and Jon Heddle and Brandon Jungman, who each chipped in one. Tyler Woyke recorded 10 saves for the Raiders. Hastings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Ponies' Colton Anderson stopped 13 shots out of the 18 that he faced. Stillwater registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
