Steele stymies Breckenridge/Wahpeton, Detroit Lakes wins 3-1

MacKenzie Steele had a standout game with 30 saves, and the Detroit Lakes Lakers beat the Breckenridge/Wahpeton Blades 3-1.

Detroit Lakes was led by Taylor Magnusson, who finished with one goal. Magnusson scored short handed 5:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Detroit Lakes. The Lakers found themselves down a man on Isaac Fondrick's hooking. Michael Hermann assisted on the tally.

Breckenridge/Wahpeton was unable to stop Detroit Lakes from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lakers eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Detroit Lakes additionally got points from Hermann, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Detroit Lakes also got a goal from Johnathan Hallisey as well. Other players who recorded assists for Detroit Lakes were Austin Rusness and Ryan Deconcini, who contributed one a piece.

The Blades stifled Detroit Lakes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Breckenridge/Wahpeton forced the Lakers goalie Steele to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

The Blades were led by Brett Pietron, who scored the team's only goal. Pietron scored on the power play 12:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Breckenridge/Wahpeton. Breckenridge/Wahpeton had taken the advantage when Detroit Lakes' Hermann got sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The Lakers totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-6 on the power play. For Detroit Lakes, Hermann was ejected from the game. The Blades' Michael Withuski stopped 33 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Breckenridge/Wahpeton totaled 34 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Team's Chris Nordgren and Tyler Wohlers were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
