St. Cloud Apollo rips Breckenridge/Wahpeton, 7-0St. Cloud MAC Sat, Dec 01, 2012 The St. Cloud Apollo Eagles had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-0 win over the Breckenridge/Wahpeton Blades. St. Cloud Apollo got the win behind a great game by Paul Kenney, who had two goals and two assists. Kenney scored the first of his two goals at 12:38 into the first period to make the score 2-0 St. Cloud Apollo. Jared Christen picked up the assist. Kenney's next tally made the score 6-0 St. Cloud Apollo with 14:33 left in the third period. The Eagles had taken the advantage when Breckenridge/Wahpeton's Brandon Wixo got sent off for slashing. Christen provided the assist. St. Cloud Apollo excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Eagles featured an improved defense during the game. St. Cloud Apollo averages 3.0 goals allowed per game. The Blades were unable to stop the Eagles from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Cloud Apollo eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. St. Cloud Apollo also got points from Christen, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Dallas Haugen, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Jacob Kemp, who also had one goal and one assist. Brandon Bloch also scored for St. Cloud Apollo. More assists for St. Cloud Apollo came via Cooper Lynch, who had one and Hunter Simonson and Jason Omann, who each chipped in two. Breckenridge/Wahpeton did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting seven shots on net to force seven saves. The Eagles' Nick Althaus stopped seven shots out of the seven that he faced. St. Cloud Apollo totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Michael Withuski made 41 saves for the Blades on 48 shots. Breckenridge/Wahpeton incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
