Luverne outlasts Dodge County, 4-2

The Luverne Cardinals gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Dodge County Wildcats.

Luverne gained the winning advantage on a goal by Gunnar Olson 6:54 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Cardinals were led by Olson, who registered one goal and one assist.

Luverne stifled Dodge County's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cardinals kept the Wildcats' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mitch Sobotta made 42 saves on 46 shots. The defensemen of Luverne were also effective in Dodge County's zone, and came away with two goals.

Luverne additionally got points from Logan Norman, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Travis Frakes also scored for Luverne. More assists for Luverne came via Toby Sengvongxay, who had two and Chaz Smedsrud and Austin Maxwell, who each chipped in one.

The Wildcats were helped by Christian Schillo, who had one goal and one assist. Schillo scored 9:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dodge County. Bryan Knesel assisted on the tally. Dodge County also got points from Tanner Dufault, who also racked up one goal and one assist.

Kendall Meyer recorded 16 saves for the Cardinals. Luverne incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Dodge County incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
