Blaine erases deficit to stun Benilde St. Margarets, 6-5

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Blaine Bengals battled back to claim a 6-5 victory over the Benilde St. Margarets Red Knights.

Blaine never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Bengals trailed 4-2 after a goal by Benilde St. Margarets' Grant Besse at 16:30 in the first period. Blaine tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Joey Lau at 6:11 in the third period. The Bengals got the game winner on the power play at 13:09 in the third period on a goal by Lau.

Tyler Cline was all over the ice for Blaine, as he grabbed two goals in the win.

The Bengals managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Blaine wound up below its season average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game. The 30 shots that the Bengals put on net surpassed Blaine's average of 2.3 shots per game this season.

Blaine also got points from Brandon Noterman, who also registered one goal and one assist, Lau, who also had one goal and one assist, and Tyler Frischmmon, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Blaine also got a goal from Jesse Norling as well. In addition, Blaine received assists from Mac Nadeau, Zack Wylie, and Jack Micek, who contributed one a piece and Nic Simpson and Dallas Gerads, who each chipped in two.

The Red Knights' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Benilde St. Margarets gives up 2.5 goals per game. The Red Knights' offense was clicking better than usual and put 34 shots on goal during the game, better than the 17.9 shots per game they average.

Benilde St. Margarets was led by Nate Labosky, who tallied two goals and one assist. Labosky scored the first of his two goals at 3:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Benilde St. Margarets. Labosky's next tally made the score 5-4 Benilde St. Margarets with 4:10 left in the second period. The Red Knights found themselves down a man on Johnny Austin's cross checking. Patrick Graham picked up the assist. Seth Chumley also scored for Benilde St. Margarets. More assists for Benilde St. Margarets came via Spencer Naas and Nate Meyer, who contributed one a piece.

Bailey Ketola recorded 29 saves for the Bengals. Blaine registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Andrew Sprang made 24 saves for Benilde St. Margarets on 30 shots. The Red Knights incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors and had no power play opportunities.
