Sengvongxay nets hat trick, leads Luverne to 9-2 win over WorthingtonWorthington High School Thu, Nov 29, 2012 Toby Sengvongxay netted a hat trick to lead the Luverne Cardinals over the Worthington Trojans, 9-2. Sengvongxay notched his first tally 12:23 into the second period. He then added goals at 12:36 into the second and at 13:35 into the third.Luverne kept Worthington's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Scholtes made 63 saves on 72 shots. The Cardinals' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Luverne averages 6.6 goals per contest. The Cardinals got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. Luverne additionally got points from Chaz Smedsrud, who also registered one goal and one assist and Skyler Wenninger, who also tallied two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Luverne also had goals scored by Jordan Dingmann, who had one and Jonny Solma, who had two. More assists for Luverne came via Gunnar Olson, who had three and Logan Norman and Austin Maxwell, who contributed two a piece. The Trojans found themselves stymied offensively, and got off a mere 13 shots against Luverne's defense. Worthington was helped by Jacob Molden, who racked up one goal. Molden scored on the power play 6:57 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Trojans had gained a power play chance when Kendall Meyer was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct. Alex Kremer provided the assist. Jacob Oberloh also scored for Worthington. In addition, Worthington received assists from Nick Newman, who had one. Meyer rejected 11 shots on goal for the Cardinals. Luverne totaled 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For the Cardinals, Wenninger was ejected from the game. Worthington totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play.
