Holton leads Rochester Mayo over Winona, 8-3

Behind a great game by Will Holton, who had two goals and one assist, the Rochester Mayo Spartans defeated the Winona Winhawks, 8-3.

Holton found the back of the net on the power play 2:11 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Rochester Mayo and again while on the power play 1:39 into the third to make the score 4-3 Rochester Mayo.

Rochester Mayo's offense rang up 57 shots on Winona's net. The Spartans' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Rochester Mayo averages 4.2 goals per contest.

Rochester Mayo also got points from Matt Rogers, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Rochester Mayo included Tommy Hanson, who had two and Ryan Martin, Adam Alcott, and Ethan Moore, who scored one goal each. In addition, Rochester Mayo received assists from Max Whitney, Jake Billings, x x, and James Johnston, who contributed one a piece.

The Winhawks were led by Nick Rowe, who registered two goals. Rowe scored the first of his two goals at 3:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Winona. Skyler Grossell provided the assist. Rowe's next tally made the score 2-1 Winona with 7:51 left in the first period. Winona also got a goal from Michael Lubahn as well. More assists for Winona came via Ryan Grant and Jake Kline, who each chipped in one.

Case Hansen recorded 12 saves for the Spartans. Rochester Mayo incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Winona's Wyatt Hamernick stopped 49 shots out of the 57 that he faced. The Winhawks incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
