Albert Lea rips Winona, 6-1Winona High School Tue, Jan 08, 2013 The Albert Lea Tigers were firing on all cylinders against the Winona Winhawks, and when the final buzzer sounded Tigers emerged with a 6-1 win. Albert Lea's Garret Matz was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 35 saves and let only one puck past him. Matz managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.06 prior to the game. The Tigers were led by Alex Claassen, who finished with one goal. Claassen scored 11:44 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Albert Lea. Reed Willett assisted on the tally. Albert Lea's offense rang up 38 shots on Winona's net. The Tigers surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Albert Lea has scored at the pace of 2.8 goals per game during the current campaign. Albert Lea additionally got points from Lucas Peterson, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Andrew Thompson, who also tallied two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, Willett, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Van Zelenak, who also registered one goal and two assists.
