Prairie Centre rips Wadena-Deer Creek, 5-2

The Prairie Centre North Stars had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines.

Preston Pung was all over the ice for Prairie Centre, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Pung scored 2:58 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Prairie Centre. Sam Ecker provided the assist.

The North Stars' penalty kill excelled, as Prairie Centre gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The North Stars' goal total was higher than their season average. Prairie Centre averages 2.0 goals per game. The North Stars were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 16 penalty minutes.

Prairie Centre also got points from Cody Steward, who also had one goal and one assist, Zack Pierskalla, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Ecker, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Adam Froseth also scored for Prairie Centre. In addition, Prairie Centre received assists from Taylor larson and Trent Berscheit, who contributed one a piece.

Wadena-Deer Creek's offense operated below it season average. The Wolverines average 4.9 goals per game. Prairie Centre was unable to stop Wadena-Deer Creek from sending pucks towards the net, and the Wolverines eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

Clay Deters rejected 39 shots on goal for the North Stars. Prairie Centre registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Wadena-Deer Creek's Wesley Janson stopped 16 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Wolverines incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
