Wadena-Deer Creek uses fast start to beat Ely/Northeast Range, 10-0

The Ely/Northeast Range Timberwolves fell behind early, and the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines kept piling on the points on the way to a 10-0 victory.

Mitchell Swanson had five goals and one assist to lead Wadena-Deer Creek. Swanson notched his first tally 1:56 into the first period. He then added goals at 3:20 into the first, at 1:08 into the second, at 6:44 into the second, and at 15:30 into the third.

The Wolverines' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Ely/Northeast Range power plays. Wadena-Deer Creek forced Ely/Northeast Range goalie Matthew Killoran to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

Wadena-Deer Creek also got points from Mike Behl, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Bridger Pettit, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Dylan Phillips, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Wadena-Deer Creek were Mike Paavola and Jake Krause, who each chipped in one and Christian Berg and Otto Asp, who contributed three a piece.

Wesley Janson recorded 17 saves for the Wolverines. Wadena-Deer Creek incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Matthew Killoran made 32 saves for the Timberwolves on 42 shots. Ely/Northeast Range ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
