Mound-Westonka rolls over Waconia, 5-2

The Mound-Westonka Whitehawks had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Waconia Wildcats.

Jack Sterne had one goal and two assists to lead Mound-Westonka. Sterne scored 11:46 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Mound-Westonka. Jeremy Schulz picked up the assist.

By firing 68 shots on goal, the Whitehawks exceeded the 1.1 shot they average per game this year.

Mound-Westonka also had goals scored by Jack Brandstetter, who had two and Blake Brady and Mitchell Sullivan, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Mound-Westonka were Nick Tschida, who had two and Tanner Palm, Josh Mazurek, and Hunter Smith, who each chipped in one.

Waconia was led by Blaine Wilsey, who finished with one goal. Wilsey scored 4:07 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alex Fortwengler assisted on the tally. Waconia also got a goal from Tony Fulkerson as well. More assists for Waconia came via Ben Kullman and Sam Schiffman, who contributed one a piece.

Alec Hill made 21 saves for Mound-Westonka on 23 shots. The Whitehawks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Nathan Kovach recorded 63 saves for the Wildcats. Waconia totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
