Providence Academy uses big second period to beat St. Paul Como Park, 11-2

The Providence Academy Lions scored six goals in the second period to pull away from the St. Paul Como Park Cougars and clinch an 11-2 win.

Providence Academy got the win on the strength of a great game by Ryan Tapani, who had four goals and one assist. Tapani notched his first tally 9:19 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:32 into the first, at 11:12 into the second, and at 16:04 into the second.

The Lions' offense rang up 47 shots on St. Paul Como Park's net. Providence Academy surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Lions have scored at the pace of 4.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with five goals.

Providence Academy additionally got points from Jack McGeehan, who also registered three goals and one assist, Matt Murphy, who also grabbed one goal and three assists, and Jack McGinty, who also had one goal and one assist. Jake Braun also scored for Providence Academy. In addition, Providence Academy received assists from Charlie Warner, who had one and Michael Cossette, Joe Kenney, and Parker DeRosier, who contributed two a piece.

The Cougars did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. St. Paul Como Park averages 5.1 goals per game. The Cougars' offense were handcuffed by Providence Academy's defensive play, and St. Paul Como Park managed only 12 shots on goal during the game.

The Cougars were helped by Sawyer Scanlon, who finished with one goal. Scanlon scored 1:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Paul Como Park. St. Paul Como Park also got a goal from Tom McCullough as well.

Danny Noble rejected 10 shots on goal for the Lions. Providence Academy totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Ernie Mantel recorded 36 saves for St. Paul Como Park. The Cougars incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
