Brainerd falls to St. Cloud Tech in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Jake Samuelson gave the St. Cloud Tech Tigers a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Brainerd Warriors when he scored 5:03 into the extra period.

St. Cloud Tech overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Tigers trailed 4-1 after a goal by Brainerd's Reno Fussy at 12:19 in the third period. St. Cloud Tech tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Samuelson at 16:19 in the third period.

The Tigers managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. St. Cloud Tech ended up below its season average of 4.0 penalty minutes per game. The Warriors were unable to stop the Tigers from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Cloud Tech eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

St. Cloud Tech also got a goal from Jake Peterson as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Cloud Tech were Braden Altena, who had one.

Brainerd was led by Isaac Johnson, who racked up two goals. Johnson scored the first of his two goals short handed at 28 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Brainerd. Johnson's next tally short handed made the score 3-1 Brainerd with 15:36 left in the second period. Nate DeChaine picked up the assist. Brainerd also got points from Fussy, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Griffin Campbell also scored for Brainerd. More assists for Brainerd came via Adam Fischer and Mason Severson, who contributed one a piece.

Austin Althaus recorded 26 saves for the Tigers. St. Cloud Tech registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Kyle Helmberger made 26 saves for the Warriors on 31 shots. Brainerd incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
