St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad uses fast start to beat St. Paul Highland Park, 12-1

A five-goal first period deficit cost the St. Paul Highland Park Scots, which could not recover and fell to the St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad Spartans, 12-1.

Peter Wood had one goal and five assists to lead St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad. Wood scored five seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad. Justin Jallen picked up the assist.

St. Paul Highland Park's five penalties came back to haunt it, as the Scots let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

The Spartans excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. St. Paul Highland Park was unable to stop St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad from sending pucks towards the net, and the Spartans eventually piled up 60 shots on goal. St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad also got points from Nick Hoffman, who also had one goal and one assist, Drew Blackmum, who also tallied four goals and one assist, Jallen, who also had one goal and three assists, Mick Sullivan, who also registered two goals and one assist, Jared Mickelson, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Jake Westfield, who also registered one goal and one assist. St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad also got a goal from Evan Dahlseide as well. In addition, St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad received assists from Ben Morris, who had one, Tyler Seplak, who had two, and Cam Causey, who had four.

The Scots found themselves stymied offensively, and got off a mere 10 shots against the Spartans' defense.

St. Paul Highland Park was led by Dylan Zavoral, who scored the team's only goal. Zavoral scored 4:15 into the second period to make the score 7-1 St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad.

Nick Anderson recorded nine saves for St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad. The Spartans incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Howie Sands made 48 saves for the Scots on 60 shots. St. Paul Highland Park ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
