Rochester Mayo survives South St.Paul comeback, wins 3-2Wakota Thu, Jan 10, 2013 The Rochester Mayo Spartans survived a determined comeback attempt by the South St.Paul Packers on the way to a 3-2 win. Rochester Mayo made the score 3-1 on a goal by Ryan Martin at 5:25 in the third period, and South St.Paul got as close as 3-2 when Brenden Shanley scored 13:02 into the third period. The Spartans were sparked by Martin, who racked up one goal. Rochester Mayo also got a goal from Tommy Fjelsted as well. More assists for Rochester Mayo came via Will Holton, who had two and Adam Alcott and Nolan Edwards, who contributed one a piece. The Packers forced Rochester Mayo goalie Case Hansen to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. South St.Paul also got points from Billy Brandecker, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, South St.Paul received assists from Jake Hill and Jack Pietruzewski, who each chipped in one. Hansen rejected 30 shots on goal for the Spartans. Rochester Mayo avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored two goals off of zero power plays. South St.Paul's Kyle Jacobs stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Packers finished the contest with no penalties and went 1-for-0 with the man advantage.
