Legacy Christian Academy blows out Sauk Rapids-Rice, 5-2

The Legacy Christian Academy Lions had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm.

Legacy Christian Academy was led by Gordy Vitek, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Vitek scored 11:33 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Legacy Christian Academy. Brock Thompson assisted on the tally.

The Lions could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

Legacy Christian Academy additionally got points from Thompson, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Ike Larson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Tyler Arenz also scored for Legacy Christian Academy. Other players who recorded assists for Legacy Christian Academy were Zach Cole and Lucas Stauffeneker, who contributed one a piece.

Sauk Rapids-Rice kept Legacy Christian Academy's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tanner Balk made 32 saves on 34 shots. The Storm's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Sauk Rapids-Rice finished with 20 penalty minutes.

The Storm were helped by Ryan Rutar, who tallied one goal. Rutar scored on the power play 16:19 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Legacy Christian Academy. A cross checking penalty on Cole had put Sauk Rapids-Rice on the power play. James Geisler provided the assist. Sauk Rapids-Rice also got a goal from Mathew Meyer as well. More assists for Sauk Rapids-Rice came via Joel Haller and Luke Althaus, who each chipped in one.

The Lions registered two goals on five power play opportunities. William Mortenson rejected 18 shots on goal for the Storm. Sauk Rapids-Rice registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
