Sartell-St.Stephen holds on for 3-2 win against AlexandriaBernicks Pepsi Arena Thu, Jan 17, 2013 The Alexandria Cardinals tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Sartell-St.Stephen Sabres held on for a 3-2 victory. Sartell-St.Stephen made the score 3-0 on a goal by Kyle Erickson at 6:47 in the second period, and Alexandria got as close as 3-2 when Jack Wensman scored 15:43 into the third period. The Sabres kept the Cardinals' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ben Allen made 30 saves on 33 shots. Sartell-St.Stephen was helped by Spencer Zwiener, who registered one goal. Zwiener scored 1:33 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Sartell-St.Stephen. Aaron Randall picked up the assist. Sartell-St.Stephen also got a goal from Matthew Ringhand as well. Other players who recorded assists for Sartell-St.Stephen were Andrew Lindmeier and Ethan Lorsung, who each chipped in one. Alexandria managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Cardinals finished below its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game. Alexandria forced the Sabres goalie Elliott Brookins to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Parker Revering also scored for Alexandria. In addition, Alexandria received assists from Matt Resch and Ryan Marciniak, who contributed one a piece. Brookins recorded 33 saves for Sartell-St.Stephen. The Sabres avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored zero goals off of one power plays. The Cardinals registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities.
