Achiever NE Academy's Thompson deadly on offense in 8-0 win against St. Paul Highland Park

The Achiever NE Academy Aces relied on the scoring touch of Baron Thompson, who netted five goals, to beat the St. Paul Highland Park Scots, 8-0.

Thompson got on the scoresheet 18 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 5:38 into the second, at 6:02 into the second, at 15:30 into the second, and at 7:06 into the third.

Jaylen Mitchel spearheaded the defensive effort for Achiever NE Academy, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 50 saves for the shutout. Mitchel certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.94 entering the contest.

The Aces put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow St. Paul Highland Park to score on any of its five power plays. Achiever NE Academy bested its season scoring average. The Aces have scored at the pace of 4.5 goals per game during the current campaign.

Achiever NE Academy additionally got points from Cory Sprague, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Ryan Finnegan, who also grabbed one goal and three assists, and Garrett Martin, who also had one goal and one assist.

The Scots' offense rang up 50 shots on Achiever NE Academy's net.

The Aces totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Howie Sands made 11 saves for St. Paul Highland Park on 19 shots. The Scots incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
