Moorhead uses early goal to top Roseau, 2-0

Aaron Herdt scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Moorhead Spuds held off the challenges of the Roseau Rams in a tough 2-0 win.

Herdt provided Moorhead with the game-winning tally when he scored 11:49 into the the first period. Tony Uglem provided the assist.

Jacob Dittmer spearheaded the defensive effort for the Spuds, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 25 saves for the shutout. Dittmer certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.02 entering the contest.

Moorhead was sparked by Herdt, who registered one goal.

The Spuds put 17 shots on net during the contest, more than the 1.4 they average per game.

Thomas Carey also scored for Moorhead.

Roseau managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Rams ended up below its season average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game. Roseau was held below its usual level of production. The Rams average 3.7 goals per game.

Moorhead incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors and had no power play opportunities. Ryan Anderson rejected 15 shots on goal for Roseau. The Rams registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
