Owatonna survives Faribault comeback, wins 4-3

The Faribault Falcons almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Owatonna Huskies managed to pull out a 4-3 win in the end.

Owatonna led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Huskies' Erik Colstrup's scored at 11:50 in the first period to put Owatonna up 3-0.

The Huskies were sparked by Mason Bloomquis, who had one goal. Bloomquis scored 6:59 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Owatonna. Mitch Skelton picked up the assist.

Owatonna racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Huskies surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Owatonna forced Faribault goalie Cody Morsching to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Dallas Hegard also scored for Owatonna. More assists for Owatonna came via Brian Kidd, Brandon Wencl, Matt Ratzloff, and Peter Hanson, who each chipped in one.

The Falcons had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 10 chances.

Faribault was helped by Evan Jensen, who grabbed one goal. Jensen scored on the power play 13:37 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Owatonna. The Falcons had gained a power play chance when Ratzloff was whistled for charging. Faribault also got a goal from Cody Colegrove as well. Other players who recorded assists for Faribault were Logan Murphy, who had one and Daniel Pierce, who had two.

The Huskies' Greg Somers stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Owatonna registered two goals on four power play opportunities. The Huskies ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Aaron Peterson was ejected from the game. Cody Morsching made 27 saves for Faribault on 31 shots. The Falcons incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
