Becker-Big Lake squeaks by North Branch, 6-4North Branch High School Tue, Feb 05, 2013 The Becker-Big Lake Eagles gutted out a close 6-4 win against the North Branch Vikings. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Collin Downs at 14:00 of the second period. Jason Tonneslan was all over the ice for Becker-Big Lake, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Tonneslan scored the first of his two goals at 1:12 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Becker-Big Lake. Nick Stalpes picked up the assist. Tonneslan's next tally made the score 5-3 Becker-Big Lake with 11:39 left in the third period. Tucker Wilkendorf provided the assist. The Eagles did not waste many scoring chances, needing only nine shots to achieve their goal tally. Becker-Big Lake stifled North Branch's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Eagles got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Becker-Big Lake also got points from Stalpes, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Elliott Darsow, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Becker-Big Lake were John Messman, who had two and Milan Kent, Zach Veau, and Zach Muller, who contributed one a piece. The Vikings did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting eight shots on net to force four saves. North Branch was helped by Kyle Nielsen, who registered one goal and one assist. Nielsen scored 3:14 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Becker-Big Lake. North Branch additionally got points from Brandon Kratzke, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Alex Miller, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Jared Axberg also scored for North Branch. More assists for North Branch came via Tim Courtright, who had one and Mitchell Patten, who had two. Ben Manzke made four saves for Becker-Big Lake on eight shots. The Eagles incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cedric Geldon recorded three saves for the Vikings.
