Huge game by Zimmer boosts Wayzata over Mound-Westonka, 5-2

The Wayzata Trojans' Maxwell Zimmer had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 5-2 win over the Mound-Westonka Whitehawks.

Zimmer scored at 16:23 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Wayzata and again while 16:31 into the second to make the score 5-2 Wayzata.

With 37 shots on target during the contest, Wayzata exceeded the 8.8 shots it averages per game this year.

Wayzata additionally got points from Brian Machut, who also registered two goals and one assist. Wayzata also got a goal from Kyle Olson as well. More assists for Wayzata came via Matthew Freytag, who had one, Alec Hemenway, who had two, and Akash Batra, who had three.

Mound-Westonka was led by Hunter Smith, who grabbed two goals. Smith scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:48 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Whitehawks had gotten the advantage when the Trojans' Batra was sent off for interference. Ben O Barsky provided the assist. Smith's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Wayzata with 3:40 left in the second period. Charlie Curti picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mound-Westonka were Nick Tschida and Blake Brady, who contributed one a piece.

Jens Vaughn Arens made 22 saves for Wayzata on 24 shots. The Trojans incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Andy Seats rejected 32 shots on goal for Mound-Westonka. The Whitehawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
