Mound-Westonka outlasts Orono, 3-2

The Mound-Westonka Whitehawks gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Orono Spartans.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Jeremy Schulz's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

Mound-Westonka was led by Schulz, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Schulz scored on the power play 7:28 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Mound-Westonka. The Whitehawks had gained a power play chance when Derek Limesand was whistled for elbowing. Charlie Curti picked up the assist.

Mound-Westonka stifled Orono's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 38 shots on goal, the Whitehawks exceeded the 0.9 shots they average per game this year.

Mound-Westonka also got a goal from Tanner Palm as well. More assists for Mound-Westonka came via Blake Brady, who had one.

The Spartans were helped by Sam Challgren, who registered one goal. Challgren scored 14:46 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Gavin Payne provided the assist. Danny Willson also scored for Orono. Other players who recorded assists for Orono were Jake Flemmer, Zach Grochowski, and Trevor Knight, who each chipped in one.

Andy Seats rejected 25 shots on goal for Mound-Westonka. The Whitehawks totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Ryan Breon made 35 saves for Orono on 38 shots. The Spartans totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
