Morris/Benson Area beats Worthington 11-4 as Picht gets hat trickLee Community Center Sat, Jan 05, 2013 The Worthington Trojans could not stop the Morris/Benson Area Storm's Tanner Picht, who tallied a hat trick in an 11-4 win. Picht got on the scoresheet 7:45 into the first period. He then added goals at 3:05 into the second and at 11:42 into the third.Morris/Benson Area led by only one goal at the end of the first period, but put the game away by scoring three goals in the second. The Storm put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Worthington to score on any of its three power plays. Morris/Benson Area kept the Trojans' goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Purdy made 33 saves on 44 shots. The Storm bested their season scoring average. Morris/Benson Area has scored at the pace of 6.1 goals per game during the current campaign. The Storm got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Morris/Benson Area also got points from Brody Gimberlin, who also tallied two goals and two assists, Andrew Rentz, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Mac Beyer, who also finished with two goals and four assists to lead the team in points. Bo Olson also scored for Morris/Benson Area. In addition, Morris/Benson Area received assists from Taner Gimberlin, who had two and Darion Helberg, Riley Blake, Bo Gullickson, and Nate Vipond, who contributed one a piece. Worthington was helped by Kody Honius, who registered two goals and one assist. Honius scored the first of his two goals at 2:15 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alex Kremer provided the assist. Honius' next tally made the score 2-1 Worthington with 12:34 left in the first period. Kremer assisted on the tally. Worthington additionally got points from Andrew Johnson, who also had one goal and two assists. Worthington also got a goal from Jacob Oberloh as well. Austin Crow made 22 saves for Morris/Benson Area on 26 shots. The Storm incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Trojans incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
