Marshall rips Fairmont, 8-2

The Marshall Tigers were firing on all cylinders against the Fairmont Cardinals, and when the final buzzer sounded Tigers emerged with an 8-2 win.

Corey Clark was all over the ice for Marshall, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Clark scored the first of his two goals at 9:19 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Marshall. Tyler Untiedt picked up the assist. Clark's next tally made the score 8-1 Marshall with 18:36 left in the third period. Untiedt provided the assist.

The Tigers managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Marshall ended up below its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game. The Tigers kept Fairmont's goalie busy throughout the game, and Colton Cunning made 42 saves on 50 shots. Marshall found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Tigers have scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign.

Marshall additionally got points from Derek Rasmussen, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Beau Mikel, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Marshall also got a goal from Andrew Bell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Marshall were Quinn Horvath, who had three and Taylor Pickthorn, Taylor Rasmussen, and Casper Larsen, who each chipped in one.

The Cardinals managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Fairmont wound up below its season average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cardinals did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 13 shots on net to force 11 saves.

Masion Campion recorded 11 saves for Marshall. The Tigers registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. Fairmont registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities.
