Frentz leads Mankato West over Le Sueur-Henderson/St. Peter, 7-2

Behind a great game by Derek Frentz, who had two goals and two assists, the Mankato West Scarlets defeated the Le Sueur-Henderson/St. Peter Bulldogs, 7-2.

Frentz scored at 8:47 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Mankato West and again while 30 seconds into the second to make the score 4-1 Mankato West.

Mankato West put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Le Sueur-Henderson/St. Peter to score on any of its four power plays. The Scarlets kept the Bulldogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Amsden made 40 saves on 47 shots.

Mankato West additionally got points from Nick Campbell, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Galt Goettl, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Mankato West also got a goal from Zach Erickson as well. In addition, Mankato West received assists from Dylan Leivermann, Ryan Lindquist, and Max Mettler, who contributed one a piece and Tyler Jutting and Scott McKissick, who each chipped in three.

Le Sueur-Henderson/St. Peter's offense was handcuffed by Mankato West's defensive play, and the Bulldogs managed only 14 shots on goal during the game.

Le Sueur-Henderson/St. Peter was helped by Brett Zallek, who had two goals. Zallek scored the first of his two goals at 4:53 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Luke Regner provided the assist. Zallek's next tally made the score 5-2 Mankato West with 11:40 left in the second period. Sam Gerdts assisted on the tally. More assists for Le Sueur-Henderson/St. Peter came via Jonny Favre, who had one.

The Scarlets' Jake Spiess stopped 12 shots out of the 14 that he faced. Mankato West incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Bulldogs incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
