Rochester Mayo rips Mankato East/Loyola, 7-1Mankato East High School Sat, Feb 02, 2013 The Rochester Mayo Spartans had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-1 win over the Mankato East/Loyola Cougars. Mankato East/Loyola fell victim to a deadly Rochester Mayo power play, which ripped the Cougars for four goals. The Spartans were led by Logan Haskins, who had one goal. Haskins scored short handed 12:59 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Rochester Mayo. Rochester Mayo found itself down a man on Ryan Martin's tripping. Nick Newman assisted on the tally. The Spartans forced Mankato East/Loyola goalie Jeremia Merela to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Rochester Mayo found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Spartans average 4.1 goals per game. Rochester Mayo also got points from Martin, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Tommy Fjelsted, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Adam Alcott also scored for Rochester Mayo. More assists for Rochester Mayo came via Will Holton, who had two and Max Whitney, who had three. The Cougars racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Mankato East/Loyola surpassed its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cougars could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Mankato East/Loyola puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. Mankato East/Loyola also got a goal from Brent Adams as well. In addition, Mankato East/Loyola received assists from Brandon Adams, who had one. Case Hansen made 14 saves for Rochester Mayo on 15 shots. The Spartans incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Merela recorded 34 saves for the Cougars. Mankato East/Loyola registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the Cougars, Jeremia Merela was ejected from the game.
