Hermantown wins tough contest against Little Falls, 3-2Little Falls Exchange Arena Sat, Jan 12, 2013 In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Hermantown Hawks escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Little Falls Flyers. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Chris Benson secured the win for Hermantown with a goal in the third period. Benson was all over the ice for the Hawks, as he registered two goals in the win. Hermantown's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Little Falls power plays. The Hawks could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Hermantown puts an average of 6.7 pucks into the net per game. Little Falls was unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Hermantown eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. Hermantown also got a goal from Travis Koepke as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hermantown were Joe Muehlbauer and Ryan Carlson, who contributed one a piece and Jake Zeleznikar and Bo Gronseth, who each chipped in two. The Flyers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Little Falls averages 4.3 goals per game. The Flyers found themselves stymied offensively, and got off a mere 13 shots against the Hawks' defense. Little Falls was helped by Ben Newman, who had one goal. Newman scored 6:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Little Falls. Spencer Fenske picked up the assist. Austin Bjorge also scored for Little Falls. More assists for Little Falls came via Matthew Stumpf, who had one. Adam Smith made 11 saves for Hermantown on 13 shots. The Hawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Michael Stumpf rejected 41 shots on goal for the Flyers. Little Falls incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
